Definition
A hormonal disorder characterized by excessive growth hormone production, leading to enlargement of bones and soft tissues, particularly in the hands, feet, and face
Clinical context
A 45-year-old man presents to the clinic with a 5-year history of gradually worsening facial features, enlarged hands and feet, and joint pain. Physical examination reveals coarse facial features, enlarged nose and lips, and thickened skin. His hands are now 2.5 times larger than normal, and his shoes no longer fit properly. Laboratory tests show elevated growth hormone levels and IGF-1 levels.
