anuria

The absence or near absence of urine production and excretion
Clinical context
A 65-year-old man with a history of heart failure presents to the emergency department with severe dyspnea and bilateral lower extremity swelling. Despite aggressive diuresis and intravenous furosemide administration, the patient produces less than 50 mL of urine over 24 hours. Laboratory studies reveal elevated BUN and creatinine levels.
