arteriogenesis
Definition
The physiological process of forming new arteries or the development of new arterial connections
Clinical context
A 65-year-old patient with severe coronary artery disease undergoes bypass surgery, and over the following months, the newly grafted vessels demonstrate significant remodeling and development of collateral circulation. During a follow-up angiogram, the medical team observes the formation of new arterial connections that were not present before the procedure.
Mnemonic
Arteriogenesis = Arteries growing new connections, like a tree growing new branches
