Clinical context
A 55-year-old woman presents with severe heel pain that is worst with the first steps in the morning and after periods of rest. Physical examination reveals tenderness to palpation of the posterior aspect of the heel. X-ray shows a bony projection extending from the calcaneus. The patient reports that the pain has been progressively worsening over several months, making it difficult to walk without discomfort.
