Definition
A condition characterized by shortening and stiffening of muscles, tendons, or other tissues, resulting in restricted movement
Clinical context
A 65-year-old stroke patient presents with right upper extremity stiffness and inability to extend the fingers or wrist. Physical examination reveals fixed flexion contractures of the metacarpophalangeal joints. The patient has been bedridden for several weeks following the cerebrovascular accident.
