cor pulmon ale

Definition

A condition where the right side of the heart becomes enlarged due to lung disease, causing the right ventricle to work harder to pump blood through the lungs

Clinical context

A 65-year-old smoker presents with progressive shortness of breath and peripheral edema. On examination, there is jugular venous distension and hepatomegaly. Echocardiogram shows right ventricular dilation and elevated pulmonary artery pressures.
