Definition
A condition in which the sutures in an infant's skull close prematurely, causing the skull to grow in an abnormal shape
Clinical context
A 2-month-old infant presents with an abnormally shaped skull and developmental delay. On examination, the pediatrician notes premature fusion of skull sutures and observes a characteristic 'scaphocephaly' appearance. The infant's head circumference is above normal range for the age group.
