cryptorchidism
Definition
A condition in which one or both testes fail to descend into the scrotum
Clinical context
A 2-year-old male presents with a painless mass in his right scrotum. On examination, the right testis cannot be palpated in the scrotum but is felt in the inguinal canal. The left testis is normally positioned. This condition increases his risk for infertility and testicular malignancy later in life. The most common form is unilateral and typically requires surgical intervention for optimal outcomes.
