Inflammation of the bladder lining, typically caused by bacterial infection
Clinical context
A 28-year-old woman presents with painful urination, frequent urination, and lower abdominal pain that started yesterday. She denies fever, flank pain, or urinary incontinence. Urinalysis shows white blood cells and nitrites. She is diagnosed with acute cystitis and treated with a short course of antibiotics.
