cystometry
Definition
The measurement of the capacity and pressure of the bladder during filling and emptying
Clinical context
A 65-year-old woman presents with urinary incontinence and frequent urination. During urodynamic studies, cystometry reveals a reduced bladder capacity of 200 mL and increased detrusor muscle pressure during filling, consistent with overactive bladder syndrome. The patient undergoes bladder training and anticholinergic therapy with improvement in symptoms.
Mnemonic
Cystometry = Cysto (bladder) + metry (measurement) - measure bladder capacity and pressure during filling and voiding
