dermatosis
Definition
A pathological condition or disease of the skin
Clinical context
A 28-year-old woman presents with pruritic, erythematous plaques on her arms and legs that have progressively worsened over the past 6 weeks. Physical examination reveals well-circumscribed, scaly lesions with silvery scales. The patient has a history of psoriasis in her family. A biopsy confirms the diagnosis of plaque psoriasis, a common dermatosis characterized by hyperproliferation of keratinocytes and inflammatory infiltrate in the dermis.
