Definition
A condition characterized by excessive urination and thirst due to insufficient antidiuretic hormone (ADH) or kidney resistance to ADH, resulting in dilute urine with little to no glucose
Clinical context
A 35-year-old patient presents with complaints of excessive urination (up to 8 liters per day) and extreme thirst that has persisted for 2 weeks. The patient reports significant fatigue and dizziness when standing. Laboratory studies show dilute urine with specific gravity of 1.001 and elevated serum osmolality.
