dyskeratosis
Definition
An abnormal condition characterized by excessive or abnormal keratinization of the skin or mucous membranes
Clinical context
A 45-year-old man presents with thickened, rough patches on his palms and soles that have been progressively worsening over 6 months. Physical examination reveals hyperkeratotic lesions with a characteristic 'pitted' appearance. Biopsy confirms excessive keratin production in the epidermis. This condition is often associated with chronic irritation or certain systemic diseases.
