Definition
Abnormal involuntary movements; a condition characterized by abnormal, uncontrolled, and often jerky movements
Clinical context
A 58-year-old patient with Parkinson's disease presents with sudden onset of irregular, writhing movements of the arms and legs that occur intermittently throughout the day. The patient reports that these movements worsen when taking levodopa and are particularly bothersome during the 'off' periods between medication doses.
