electrocardiography
Definition
The process of recording the electrical activity of the heart using an electrocardiograph
Clinical context
A 65-year-old male presents to the emergency department with chest pain and shortness of breath. His ECG shows ST-segment elevation in leads II, III, and aVF, indicating an inferior wall myocardial infarction. The cardiologist orders continuous ECG monitoring to detect any arrhythmias that may develop.
Mnemonic
EKG = Electrical Heart Graph (think of 'E' for electricity and 'K' for heart, with 'G' for graphing the electrical activity)
