Definition

A blood disorder characterized by the presence of elliptical (oval-shaped) red blood cells instead of the normal biconcave disc shape

Clinical context

Her family history is significant for similar symptoms in her brother. The diagnosis of elliptocytosis is confirmed with osmotic fragility testing.
