A benign tumor composed of cartilage that develops within the medullary cavity of bones

Clinical context

A 23-year-old baseball player presents with gradual onset of pain and swelling in his left femur that has worsened over several months. Radiographs reveal a well-defined lesion with a 'soap bubble' appearance. Histopathological examination shows lobulated masses of mature cartilage with chondrocytes in lacunae. The tumor is confined to the medullary cavity without cortical destruction.
