Definition

A medical condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus

Clinical context

A 28-year-old woman presents with progressively worsening pelvic pain over the past 2 years, especially during menstruation. She describes the pain as severe cramping that radiates to her back and thighs, often requiring prescription pain medication. On examination, a fixed retroverted uterus with tender nodules in the uterosacral ligaments is noted.
