epispadias
Definition
A congenital condition in which the urethra opens on the upper surface of the penis rather than at the tip
Clinical context
A 2-month-old male presents with abnormal urinary stream and the urethral opening located on the dorsal aspect of the penis. Physical examination reveals a short, narrow urethra with the opening situated on the upper surface rather than at the tip. The patient's mother reports the child has had difficulty with normal urination since birth, and there is associated ventral chordee with penile curvature. The condition is diagnosed as epispadias.
