Definition
A malignant tumor of the esophagus
Clinical context
A 65-year-old man presents with progressive dysphagia to both solids and liquids over 3 months, along with significant weight loss. He has a history of heavy alcohol use and smoking. An endoscopic biopsy reveals malignant cells with marked atypia and loss of architectural pattern. Imaging shows a mass in the mid-esophagus with lymphadenopathy. His tumor is staged as T3N1M0.
