Definition
narrowing or constriction of the esophagus
Clinical context
A 55-year-old man presents with progressive dysphagia to both solids and liquids over several months. He reports that his symptoms worsen when eating dry foods and has lost 15 pounds. An upper endoscopy reveals a narrow segment in the mid-esophagus with normal mucosa above and below the area. The patient has a history of gastroesophageal reflux disease for over 10 years.
