fibrodysplasia
Definition
A pathological condition characterized by abnormal development or formation of fibrous tissue
Clinical context
A 12-year-old boy presents with progressive bone deformities and pain in his legs. Radiographic imaging reveals multiple lytic lesions in the long bones with fibrous tissue proliferation. The patient has no history of trauma or infection. Biopsy of the affected bone shows abnormal fibrous tissue formation replacing normal bone architecture.
Mnemonic
Fibro = Fibrous tissue, Dyna = Development, Plasia = Formation - Fibro-Dys-Plasia = Abnormal fibrous development and formation
