Definition
A skin condition characterized by the presence of boils or carbuncles
Clinical context
A 23-year-old man presents with multiple painful, red nodules on his neck and back that have been present for 2 weeks. Physical examination reveals fluctuant, tender masses with purulent drainage. Culture of the discharge grows Staphylococcus aureus. The patient is diagnosed with furunculosis and treated with appropriate antibiotics.
