Definition

abnormal discharge of milk from the breast in the absence of pregnancy or lactation

Clinical context

A 28-year-old woman presents to the clinic complaining of milky discharge from both breasts for the past 3 weeks. She is not pregnant and has not given birth, and her last menstrual period was 6 weeks ago. She denies any trauma to the chest and reports no pain with the discharge. On examination, clear discharge can be expressed from both nipples with gentle compression.
