glomerulosclerosis
Definition
A pathological condition characterized by the hardening and scarring of the glomeruli in the kidney, leading to impaired kidney function
Clinical context
A 55-year-old diabetic patient presents with progressive edema and hypertension over several months. Laboratory studies reveal proteinuria and declining glomerular filtration rate. Kidney biopsy shows characteristic nodular sclerosis of glomeruli with Kimmelstiel-Wilson lesions.
