Definition

Paralysis affecting only one side of the body, typically the arm and leg on the same side

Clinical context

A 65-year-old man presents to the emergency department with sudden onset of weakness on his right side. He cannot move his right arm and leg when asked to do so, while his left side functions normally. His facial features are symmetric and he can speak clearly without difficulty.
