Definition
A chronic liver disease characterized by scarring and fibrosis of liver tissue, often resulting in a yellowish discoloration of the liver
Clinical context
A 58-year-old man presents with fatigue, abdominal distension, and jaundice. Physical examination reveals a firm, nodular liver with signs of portal hypertension. Liver biopsy shows extensive fibrosis and regenerative nodules. The patient's condition has progressively worsened over the past year despite treatment for alcohol dependence.
