Definition
A condition characterized by accumulation of fluid in a body cavity or sac, typically occurring in the scrotum or abdomen
Clinical context
A 35-year-old male presents with painless swelling of the scrotum that has been progressively enlarging over several months. On examination, the scrotum is swollen with a translucent appearance, and light passes through the swollen area. The patient reports no pain or discomfort, and the swelling does not change with position. This presentation is consistent with a hydrocele, which is a collection of fluid around the testis within the tunica vaginalis.
