Definition

Abnormal condition of the kidney characterized by the accumulation of urine due to obstruction of urine flow

Clinical context

A 45-year-old male presents with sudden onset of severe flank pain radiating to the groin, accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Imaging reveals dilated renal pelvis and calyces with no evidence of stones or masses. The patient's symptoms are consistent with hydronephrosis secondary to ureteral obstruction.
