Definition
Abnormal distension or dilation of the ureter, usually caused by obstruction of urine outflow
Clinical context
A 45-year-old male presents with severe left flank pain and hematuria. Imaging reveals a dilated left ureter with multiple calculi causing obstruction. The patient undergoes surgical intervention to remove the dilated ureter filled with urine due to severe hydronephrosis. Post-operatively, he experiences significant pain relief and improved renal function.
