hyperaldosteronism
Definition
A medical condition characterized by excessive production of aldosterone by the adrenal cortex, leading to hypertension and hypokalemia
Clinical context
A 45-year-old patient presents with severe hypertension and muscle weakness. Laboratory tests reveal low potassium levels and elevated aldosterone concentrations. The patient's blood pressure remains uncontrolled despite multiple antihypertensive medications. Imaging studies show a small adrenal adenoma. This constellation of findings is consistent with hyperaldosteronism.
