A 34-year-old woman presents with profound fatigue, weight loss, and hypotension lasting several weeks. She has darkened skin pigmentation and low blood glucose levels. Laboratory studies reveal decreased cortisol levels and elevated ACTH. She is diagnosed with Addison's disease secondary to autoimmune destruction of the adrenal cortex.
