hypospadias
Definition
A congenital condition in males where the urethral opening is located on the underside of the penis rather than at the tip
Clinical context
A 3-year-old boy presents to the pediatric urology clinic with abnormal urinary stream direction and downward curvature of the penis during erection. His parents note that the urethral opening appears to be located along the ventral aspect of the penile shaft rather than at the glans. Physical examination confirms the diagnosis of hypospadias with associated chordee. Surgical correction is planned for early childhood to address both functional and cosmetic concerns.
Mnemonic
HYPOspadias = HYDROcele and UREthral opening on the underside
