Definition

The condition in which one part of the intestine telescopes into another part

Clinical context

A 3-year-old child presents to the emergency department with sudden onset abdominal pain, vomiting, and passage of currant jelly stool. The child appears moderately distressed with intermittent crying and drawing up of the knees. On examination, a palpable abdominal mass is noted in the right upper quadrant.
