Definition

Inflammation of the jejunum, the middle section of the small intestine

Clinical context

A 28-year-old woman presents with crampy abdominal pain, diarrhea, and weight loss. Colonoscopy reveals aphthous ulcers and skip lesions in the terminal ileum. Biopsy shows transmural inflammation with granulomas. She also experiences joint pain and eye irritation. Her stool cultures are negative for infectious agents.
