Definition
An abnormal forward curvature of the spine in the thoracic region, resulting in a humpback deformity
Clinical context
A 65-year-old woman presents to the clinic with progressive back pain and cosmetic deformity of her spine. On examination, there is a visible forward curvature of the thoracic spine with a characteristic humpback appearance. The patient reports difficulty with daily activities and feels self-conscious about her posture. X-rays confirm an excessive forward curvature of the thoracic spine beyond normal physiological limits.
