Definition

An abnormal forward curvature of the spine in the cervical or lumbar regions

Clinical context

A 25-year-old woman presents with chronic neck pain and difficulty maintaining proper posture. Physical examination reveals an exaggerated forward curve in her cervical spine when she stands upright. She reports that her neck appears to be 'sunken in' and has been experiencing stiffness that worsens with prolonged sitting at her desk job. The forward curvature is most noticeable in the cervical region and is not present in the thoracic spine.
