Definition

A malignant tumor arising from lymphocytes in the lymph nodes or other lymphoid tissues

Clinical context

A 25-year-old man presents with painless lymphadenopathy in the cervical and axillary regions. Physical examination reveals multiple firm, non-tender lymph nodes. Biopsy of the affected lymph node shows a monomorphic population of large B-cells with prominent nucleoli. The patient is diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, an aggressive form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The disease typically presents with generalized lymphadenopathy and may involve extranodal sites such as the gastrointestinal tract or central nervous system.
