Definition

A type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma characterized by the presence of small, mature lymphocytes with a distinctive morphology that resembles mantle zone cells in the lymph node

Clinical context

A 65-year-old man presents with abdominal pain and weight loss. CT scan reveals multiple enlarged lymph nodes and splenomegaly. Bone marrow biopsy shows small lymphocytes with distinctive morphology resembling mantle zone cells. Flow cytometry demonstrates CD5+ CD10- CD23+ immunophenotype. Patient is diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma.
