Definition
A cluster of conditions that occur together, increasing risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes
Clinical context
A 45-year-old obese patient presents with elevated blood pressure, impaired glucose tolerance, and dyslipidemia. The combination of these metabolic abnormalities significantly increases their risk for cardiovascular events and diabetes. This constellation of findings represents the classic metabolic syndrome.
