Definition
Paralysis affecting only one limb or extremity
Clinical context
A 34-year-old woman presents to the emergency department with sudden onset of weakness in her right arm and hand over the past hour. She denies facial weakness, speech difficulties, or weakness in her legs. On examination, she has flaccid paralysis of her right upper extremity with absent reflexes and no sensory deficits. Brain MRI shows a small stroke in the left cerebral hemisphere.
