Definition

A localized form of scleroderma characterized by hard, waxy patches of skin

Clinical context

A 34-year-old woman presents with firm, indurated patches on her forearm that have been progressively worsening over 6 months. The lesions are well-circumscribed with a waxy, hardened appearance and lack the systemic manifestations seen in systemic sclerosis. Physical examination reveals no internal organ involvement.
