Definition
A type of leukemia characterized by the overproduction of white blood cells in the bone marrow
Clinical context
A 32-year-old man presents to the emergency department with fatigue, fever, and easy bruising. Physical examination reveals splenomegaly and pallor. Laboratory studies show elevated white blood cell count with mature-looking white blood cells and normal hemoglobin. Bone marrow biopsy confirms the diagnosis of chronic myelogenous leukemia.
