Clinical context
A 25-year-old woman presents with fever, flank pain, and hematuria three days after a streptococcal throat infection. Urinalysis reveals red blood cell casts and proteinuria. A throat culture grows group A beta-hemolytic streptococci. The patient is diagnosed with post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis, a form of nephritis that typically occurs 1-2 weeks after pharyngitis.
