Definition
The formation or presence of stones in the kidney
Clinical context
A 45-year-old patient presents to the emergency department with severe left flank pain that started 2 hours ago and radiates to the groin. The pain is described as colicky and associated with nausea and hematuria. CT scan of the abdomen reveals a 6mm stone in the left renal pelvis. The patient has a history of dehydration and low fluid intake. Diagnosis: nephrolithiasis.
