A kidney disorder characterized by proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, hyperlipidemia, and edema
Clinical context
A 35-year-old woman presents with bilateral lower extremity swelling and frothy urine for the past 2 weeks. Physical examination reveals pitting edema and mild ascites. Laboratory studies show significantly elevated protein in the urine, low serum albumin levels, and elevated cholesterol. Kidney biopsy confirms damage to the glomerular filtration barrier.
