neurofibroma
Definition
A benign tumor composed of nerve fibers and fibrous tissue, typically arising from nerve sheaths
Clinical context
A 28-year-old woman presents with multiple café-au-lait spots and soft palpable masses along her peripheral nerves. Physical examination reveals several flesh-colored nodules that are slowly growing over the past few years. The patient has no family history of similar lesions. Biopsy of one of the masses confirms benign tumor formation involving nerve fibers and fibrous tissue.
