inflammation of the ovary
Clinical context
A 24-year-old woman presents with severe pelvic pain, fever, and nausea. On examination, there is bilateral adnexal tenderness. Pelvic ultrasound shows enlarged ovaries with increased vascularity. She is diagnosed with oophoritis following diagnostic laparoscopy and cultures. The condition is often associated with ascending infection from the lower genital tract.
