orchidopexy
Definition
Surgical procedure to fix or anchor a testis in the scrotum
Clinical context
A 2-year-old boy presents with a history of intermittent right scrotal swelling that disappears when he lies down. Physical examination reveals a soft, reducible mass in the right scrotum that reduces spontaneously. The patient's mother reports the swelling occurs more frequently when the child cries or strains. An ultrasound confirms the diagnosis of indirect inguinal hernia with testicular descent. Surgical correction is planned to prevent complications such as testicular torsion or incarceration.
