osteoblastoma
Definition
A tumor composed of immature bone-forming cells (osteoblasts)
Clinical context
A 22-year-old male presents with a slow-growing, painful mass in his left forearm that has been present for 6 months. Imaging reveals a well-circumscribed lesion with radiopaque areas suggesting bone formation. Surgical resection demonstrates tissue composed of immature bone-forming cells with osteoid matrix.
Mnemonic
Osteoblastoma = Osteo (bone) + blast (immature cells) + oma (tumor) - think 'bone builders gone wild'
